#SeaSocialMen – The Seattle Social Media Man can now stand tall!

For some time I have attended tweet-ups and other social events and seen gangs of fashionable, knowledgeable and connected gals laughing and giggling their way around venues.  With a glass of wine (or champagne) in hand and adorned in the latest fashions, they have flaunted their friendships in front of us men as we stand, shoulders slumped, waiting in one’s and two’s for them to show us some attention.  Secretly we want to join their gang, share in their sisterhood and have seemingly endless Twitter conversations about the latest goings ons.  Recently I risked life and limb and went undercover to try and work out how this secretive, yet very public tribe became so strong!

Never fear men I have succeeded and come up with the ultimate answer for you… #SeaSocialMen!  A hash-tag full of brotherly love, where we males, the social media minority, can band together and talk about sport, the latest gadgets, and dare-I-say-it, the half yearly Nordstrom sale.  Just like those women we too can meet at social events and actually know each other!  Never again will we stand like cardboard cutouts on the fringes of a tweet-up!  We will roam like a pack of beer holding, one man wolf packs, openly discussing the latest Twitter strategies, just like we know what we are talking about!  No longer will we be one man amongst many women like the clown below, always the odd man out… even if it is for a good reason…

Even better we can get together once a month at a bar, eat fries, drink beer and talk about whether TJ or CW should be QB and not have to explain who we are talking about.  The Seattle Social Media Man can rise, unite and stand proud!  If you’re a good man who uses social media in Seattle, lonely and wanting to join the brotherhood, please send a request to join our Facebook Group.  If you’d like to follow said men on Twitter, you can do so by clicking here.

DISCLAIMER: While the writer of this blog endorses the above content, he in no way wants to propagate sexual discrimination.  He is merely attempting to fire up the meek, mild, outnumbered and horribly socially inept men who inhabit the dark corners of the social media world in Seattle, and motivate them to actually create some kind of social dialogue amongst themselves.  He pays homage to the social media mavens who have paved the way for the #SeaSocialMen to follow, such social mavens as @JessEstrada @jaymeedoll @knitpurl @alixrose @MollieinSeattle @anisaleyla @kellyhclay @girlandcoconut @jennimacdonald @elise81 @emilybratkovich @keridwyn @nicoleshema @carissang etc etc.

It's been months since I've been on a road trip and I'm itching to get out of dodge. This having twenty stitches in your back thing is a real drag! I had to cancel what would have been an awesome ski trip with Jemma to Canada so now I'm percolating over where to go with Jemma on a road trip instead, as soon as I'm mobile again. You guys have any suggestions for us? . @peacevansrentals #roadtrip #sp I've been lucky enough to have seen a lot of nature's beauty in my life. Very rarely, if ever, have I been as blown aware by a place like I was at Yosemite. The scale, the beauty, the access to animals, the peace, the energy, the grandeur. I really just felt like a kid in the best candy store on the planet. Many have tried to use words to share the experience, but none better than the man himself, Mr John Muir... "Nature's peace will flow into you a sunshine flows into trees." For all who have been, you know what I'm raving about, for those who haven't you simply must go and experience it for yourself. I'm really hoping to make it back there in the spring, fingers crossed! 🤞 . #yosemite #california Sometimes the fog of uncertainty descends on your life and everything you thought you knew, or believed to be true becomes uncertain or unclear. It's so interesting to pay attention to how your mind deals with these shifts in reality and then how your relationship with everything is just different after these events. When said event is related to your mortality it for sure crystallizes what is important and what isn't. The fog of my mortality descended briefly and when it lifted it left me scarred but so, so happy to be here and to already be living a life I'm proud of. There's a joy to finding out that you're exactly where you should be and that if it all ended today, you'd be happy with who you are and what you've done. How peaceful and freeing is that? . #yosemite #california I've written before about my fascination about waterfalls, how they are effectively impertinent, yet there they are flowing with permanence as long as there is water to flow. Today I'm vividly reminded of our impermanence as I head into surgery to remove a melanoma skin cancer from my back. The reality of life sharpens when someone tells you that you have any form of cancer. That said while I won't know for sure for a little while it seems we've so fortunately caught it early and fingers crossed this isn't going to be any more difficult that navigating losing a chunk out of my back and the healing process associated with that. I'm glad to have done the work in my life to be able to navigate this from a mental perspective with calmness and composure as my study of Buddhism truly has been my crutch as I navigate this process. I actually had one of the best yoga classes of my life this morning and I feel great heading into today's surgery. Moral of the story though kids is protect yourself from that sun in the sky and get regular skin checks. Trust me, it's worth the effort! . #yosemite #waterfall . #lifeofadventure #wildernessculture #letsgosomewhere #adventureenthusiasts #optoutside #outsidemagazine #liveoutdoors #goexplorewander #peoplewhoadventure #wildme #awakethesoul #livefolk #tlpicks #uniladadventures #hikingculture #wildernessnation #keepitwild #realfolklife #voyaged #natgeotravel #outsidemagazine #stayandwander #weroamabroad #theweekoninstagram #modernoutdoors #allaboutadventures #tentree #exploretocreate There is something about baby turtles that makes nearly everyone squeal with delight. What an amazing gift it was to have the opportunity two nights in a row to release hundreds of them and to give them an opportunity to thrive. Yeah, yeah we all know the odds, but to be a part of giving some of these tiny creatures the opportunity to become the majestic icons of the ocean was nothing short of thrilling! You can do this right on the beach out the front of @playalastortugas. I'll never forget it! Watching that last guy into the water got to me. He struggled so hard, I really hope he makes it! . #mexico #turtles #sponsored
This is El Capitan, a rock climbers dream or nightmare, depending on how you look at it. For most it's a multi day climb, for others it's a chance to rewrite the record books. On June 3, 2017, @alexhonnold did the impossible. Alex became the first person to free solo climb (without ropes) all 3,200 feet of this, the most famous rock face in the world, in just under 4 hours. In my mind this is one of the most amazing human feats ever accomplished. The mental resolve to achieve this, let alone even attempt this is truly fascinating to me. What's truly great for the rest of us is that the incredible @jimmychin and his team documented the entire process, from concept to reality. This film, aptly called #FreeSolo is one of the greatest documentaries I've ever seen. It is incredible and unbelievably anxiety creating to go on this journey with Alex. I saw it on @imax and believe it is returning to those screens again from Feb 1-7. I highly, highly recommend it. . #yosemite People come into our lives in so many different ways and they can mean so many different things to us. Sometimes it takes a while to work out what role you'd like someone to take in your life, are they a friend, a reason, a season, a lover, a lifetime, a fast burn, a slow burn, should they even be in your life? Then there's the questions about yourself, am I ready? What do I want. What do I need to learn to be a better partner because all the others have ended for a reason right? There's self doubt, negative self talk, will they get along with my kid, my friends, my family? Questions, questions questions. For six months Brittany patiently put up with my questions, my doubts, my shit. Eventually I had a realization that I was creating all the noise in my head and that on all the things that truly matter, we really aligned. I finally pushed my shit aside and opened myself up to the concept of "us". To say that the last two weeks have been tough for me personally is an understatement. But with reference to my last post about how we find more clarity when the fog rises, one of the truly incredible parts of this health challenge has been experiencing what it feels like to have an incredible partner by your side through every step that challenging process. Brittany drove me to my surgery, stayed in the room while they cut the melanoma out and stitched me up. She lives a minimum of 45 minutes away in good traffic yet has cleaned my wound and dressed it every day since. She's cooked me dinners, massaged my sore body, even put on my socks and shoes for me, she's been incredible, all while being a parent herself and running her business. It's one thing to think you're with an amazing person, it's another thing you know it! I can't wait to heal up and get back out there on more road trips with you babe. This pic was from our July 4 week long road trip through Oregon to the Redwoods in California and back. Here's to us! ❤ . #craterlake #Oregon I am very happy to share that the stage 1A Melanoma Skin Cancer that was on my back is no more and that I'm on the mend. I'm going to have a pretty decent scar to show for it but it's very worth it. Because it was caught so early there is nothing more to do but have regular checkups from now on. Thank you to everyone for your love and support, it means the world to me. I'm already planning my way back to see this incredible view as soon as possible, I can't wait to get healthy and get out there again! . #yosemite #california One of my favorite wildlife encounters ever was watching this beautiful Coyote hunt in the Yosemite Valley. I pulled over to take a shot of the view and caught some movement in the grass and was amazed for the next half an hour while it hunted mice, catching five while I watched. At times it walked within 10 feet of me. Over time a crowd gathered and it seemed completely uninterested in our presence. I tried my best to capture its technique of jumping high in the air and diving headfirst on its prey. The act of capturing animals in nature like this is probably in my top five favorite things to do. I could sit all day every day capturing shots of animals not moving at all with unending patience. Something I definitely don't have for people! . #yosemite @yosemitenps @yosemite_national_park Isn't it funny how we can think we know how we feel about a situation but then discover that we've been looking at it all wrong? Sometimes it's the smallest thing that creates a shift that can change everything. You look back and you wonder how you didn't see it earlier. You marvel at how things now fit into place. I guess life can be like a jigsaw, sometimes you know what the picture is pretty early on, and other times you don't see the picture until you fit that last piece. Those ones just make me shake my head and smile and give into the process. What the hell do I know anyway? . This is an upside down reflection shot I took on Thanksgiving day in the Yosemite Valley. More to come from that trip... . #yosemite
